(Research does rule, especially when you follow the rules!)
From Episode 1:
- Before you jump into a research project, take time to discover what other people have already found out about your family. This way you can save time by not redoing the research someone else has already done.
Jana's note: See the Tree Tips page for more details about conducting a "preliminary survey" before researching your ancestor.
From Episode 2:
- Did you know that some records are better than others? Researchers use primary sources & secondary sources. Primary sources are the most reliable because they record information at the time an event actually happened. Secondary sources talk about an event later on. Hopefully they're both accurate, but when in doubt, trust the primary record first!
Jana's note: See the Tree Tips page for more details about locating "vital information" for your ancestor.
